"Adyrna" news agency reports that among a number of tasks given by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Government, governors have to stabilize the operation of public transport.

Today, the problem of public transport will be discussed in Almaty, the largest city in the country.

There is a lack of public transport between the region and the city in Almaty, a huge city. Askar Amrin, deputy mayor of the city, announced this at the maslikhat session.

According to the speaker, today only 150 villages have 22 suburban buses. The main requirement is 50 buses.

"The budget of the city of Almaty covers 100% of the subsidies for buses going to the suburbs. For example, 10 billion tenge were allocated for it in 2021 and 11 billion tenge in 2022. Given the new directions in the plan, the volume of subsidies will increase in the future. Last month, we started negotiations with Almaty region on joint subsidization of suburban routes. Almaty city administration offered to cover half of the costs of private transporters to the region. Negotiations are continuing now," said Askar Amrin.

He said that by 2024, 30 new main suburban routes will be launched for the convenience of the people.

"As a result, the availability of public transport will improve. Also, suburban routes will be combined into a single tariff of the city. "Also, it is planned to introduce a regional tariff that will allow you to pay the fare to the city when taking a bus in the suburbs, and not to pay the full cost of the ticket again when switching to an intra-city route," the speaker said.
