Famous Kazakh writer, poet, journalist, translator, and public figure Adolf Arciszewski has passed away at the age of 87. This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information, reports “Adyrna.”
“In his works, he deeply explored themes of humanity, spirituality, and love for the homeland, leaving a lasting impression on generations of readers. His literary creations, published in both Kazakh and Russian, received high acclaim from the literary community,” the Ministry’s statement said.
Adolf Alfonsovich Arciszewski was born on January 17, 1938, in the city of Prokopyevsk (Kuzbass). He spent most of his life in Almaty.
In 1960, he graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Kazakh State University, and in 1981, he completed the Higher Literary Courses at the Maxim Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow.
He began his career as an editor at the “Zhazushy” publishing house. He also worked as a technical editor for Prostor magazine, head of
the literary department at the Republican Young Spectators’ Theatre, and at the M. Lermontov Academic Russian Drama Theatre.
Additionally, he served as the chief editor of “The Turning Point,” the first Kazakhstani television series produced by Kazakhfilm studio, and was also the chief editor of the magazine Zhana Daur (“New Era”).
Adolf Arciszewski was the author of 18 books of poetry and prose. He was a member of the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan, the PEN Club, the Journalists’ Union, the Theatre Workers’ Union, and the Cinematographers’ Union.
He also made significant contributions to translating Kazakh literature into Russian. Notably, he translated Akim Tarazi’s novellas Ayaz and Oraz and Dynasty, Bakhytzhan Mukai’s collection The Swan, Kalikhan Iskakov’s novel The Legend of Belovodye, the play The Order Remains in Effect by Kalikhan Iskakov and Shakhimarden Kusainov, and Dulat Isabekov’s play The Devil’s Web (The Life of Mikhail Bulgakov) into Russian.
