Edgar Mamedov, a chess player from Aktau, has become the youngest international grandmaster in Kazakhstan, according to the national portal “Adyrna.” At just 14 years old, Edgar set a new national record. This was announced by the Mangystau Regional Public Communications Center. “Edgar had already achieved three grandmaster norms and reached a FIDE rating of 2492 — just 8 points short of the required 2500. During the Sharjah Masters International Chess Championship 2025 — A super tournament, he confidently passed the first two rounds, gained the missing points, and was officially awarded the grandmaster title,” the statement said. Edgar Mamedov is the first chess player in Kazakhstan to earn the GM (Grandmaster) title at the age of 14.
