Kazakhstani young chess player Kairat Abdul-Malik won the world championship in the under-7 category in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia, reports the national portal “Adyrna.” The Kazakhstan Chess Federation announced the news. Abdul-Malik secured 8 points before the final round, leading his closest rival by one point. In the decisive match, he defeated Indian player Om Yesh Gottumukkala. Tournament results (U7, 31 participants): 1. Kairat Abdul-Malik (Kazakhstan) – 8 points 2. Om Yesh Gottumukkala (India) – 7 points 3. Muslim Amrayev – 2.5 points Winners in the other 10 age categories are also being determined. Seven Kazakhstani chess players are contenders for medals. Last year, the chess championship was held in Lima, Peru. At that event, Kazakhstani players Aiaru Altynbek (G13) won gold, and Iman Nabiev (O9) claimed bronze.
