U.S. President Donald Trump has declared himself the interim president of Venezuela. He made this announcement on his Truth Social account, Adyrna reports.
The statement was made following reports that U.S. military forces had abducted Venezuela’s current leader, Nicolás Maduro. After that, the incumbent U.S. president announced that control over the situation in Venezuela would now be taken over by the American authorities and personally by himself.
On Truth Social, Trump published a screenshot styled like a biographical entry from Wikipedia, in which a new position — “Interim President of Venezuela” — was listed under his name. January 2026 was indicated as the date of his “appointment.” At the same time, the same “profile” also retained his current position as President of the United States.
