Kazakhstan can become an alternative to Russia in the field of energy cooperation for European countries. Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated this in an interview with Kazinform, reports Adyrna.

“Europe is gradually moving away from Russian liquefied gas and oil. This more than 80% reduction increases the demand for alternative energy sources. In this regard, Kazakhstan plays an important role,” said Stubb.

He also reminded that the European Union is Kazakhstan’s largest trading partner.

During talks in Astana, the Finnish president emphasized that he highly values Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s views regarding Russia and China.

“Small and medium-sized powers like Finland and Kazakhstan have their own values and interests, but their ability to influence is limited. Nevertheless, we can play a mediating role, contribute to dialogue and information exchange. For example, President Tokayev will visit the White House next week, and then the Kremlin. This is a great opportunity to receive relevant information from both President Trump and President Putin and convey it to other parties. I believe that both Finland and Kazakhstan play an important role in international relations,” said Alexander Stubb.

It should be noted that Finnish President Alexander Stubb paid an official visit to Astana on October 28–29 at the invitation of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. During the meeting, 15 documents on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and other areas were signed.
