Divorce rates in Kazakhstan have declined. This was announced by Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balaeva, reports Adyrna.
According to the head of the ministry, who congratulated Kazakhstanis on Family Day, the value of the family is growing in the country.
“The family is a force that ensures the continuity of generations, shapes a person’s character and identity, and gives meaning to life. The future of society, as well as the path to harmony and prosperity of the nation, depends on strong families. Our people did not say in vain: ‘The homeland begins with the family.’ Care for children, respect for elders, and the continuity of traditions and spiritual values make our people united and strong,” the minister emphasized.
In addition, Balaeva cited the words of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: “A strong family is a reliable guarantee of the country’s harmonious and sustainable development. Therefore, the state pays special attention to improving the system of support for mothers and children and to promoting family values.”
“It is encouraging that the institution of the family in our country is strengthening. According to sociological data, for the majority of Kazakhstanis (85–89%), the main value is mutual love, respect, and understanding between spouses and children. These very values form the foundation of a strong and prosperous family. There is a trend of declining divorce rates. Over the past five years, their number has decreased by about 16% (from 48.2 thousand in 2020 to 40.5 thousand in 2024). This testifies to the growing sense of responsibility among spouses and their desire to preserve the family,” said the minister.
It is known that since 2019, together with the Supreme Court, the “Happy Family” project has been implemented in courts handling cases involving minors. The project is aimed at resolving disputes that arise during the divorce process. Within its framework, psychologists, lawyers, mediators, and social workers provide consultations. In 2024, 37.5% of cases ended in reconciliation (compared to 33.1% in 2023), which demonstrates the effectiveness of the project.
Special attention is paid to training programs designed to harmonize relationships for couples preparing for marriage. In addition, the “Parents’ Academy” project, aimed at increasing parental responsibility and fostering a conscious approach to raising children, plays an important role.
Family Support Centers (FSCs) also make a significant contribution to supporting citizens. Today, 131 such centers operate across the country, becoming a support system for thousands of families. Since the beginning of the year, more than 40,000 citizens have turned to FSCs. More than 15,000 consultations have been provided on pressing issues, and about 4,000 people have received comprehensive support.
“Dear friends! May peace, love, and harmony reign in every home! I wish your families happiness, health, and prosperity. May the younger generation grow up in an environment filled with care and mutual respect,” concluded Aida Balaeva.
