This year, 8,051 ethnic Kazakhs reunited with their historical homeland and received kandas (repatriate) status, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection reported today, according to Adyrna.

Since the beginning of the year, 44.2% of the returnees came from Uzbekistan, 43.2% from China, 5% from Turkmenistan, 2.7% from Mongolia, 2.4% from Russia, and 2.5% from other countries.

“As of August 1, ethnic migrants of working age made up 59.1%, those younger than working age accounted for 31.8%, and pensioners 9.1%. Among the working-age repatriates, 15.7% have higher education, 28.1% have vocational secondary education, 53.5% have general secondary education, and 2.7% have no formal education,” the statement reads.

It should be noted that since 1991, a total of 1,156,100 ethnic Kazakhs have returned to the country.
