Kazakhstan’s Consulate General has officially opened in the city of Osh, Kyrgyzstan. The diplomatic mission was inaugurated on the eve of President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to the neighboring country, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adyrna reports.

“Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are not only neighbors but also the closest partners and allies, united by common values and a shared aspiration for peace, stability, and prosperity in Central Asia,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Yermukhambet Konuspayev.

He described the opening of the consulate in Kyrgyzstan’s second-largest city as a particularly significant event that symbolizes the fraternal ties between the two nations.

Kyrgyz Deputy Minister Asein Isaev noted that this step would provide fresh impetus for further strengthening and expanding cooperation.

Meanwhile, Osh Mayor Jenishbek Toktorbaev announced that, in honor of the 180th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet and thinker Abai Qunanbaiuly, one of the city’s streets would be named after him.

The consular district of Kazakhstan’s Consulate General will cover the Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions, where nearly 3,000 Kazakh citizens reside.

Osh, located in southern Kyrgyzstan, plays an important role as the country’s administrative, economic, and cultural center. It is the second-largest city in the country, with a population of about 500,000.
