Minister of Education Gani Beisembaev once again shared his opinion regarding the possible extension of the school year in Kazakhstan until June 1, Adyrna reports.
According to Beisembaev, the issue remains open for now, as it is necessary to prepare the infrastructure first.
“This matter is still open. Because, first of all, we must ensure that educational institutions and all of their infrastructure meet the required standards. As you know, more than a thousand schools in our country still need major repairs and modernization. Therefore, it is necessary to equip all schools with modern classrooms,” the head of the ministry said.
Beisembaev emphasized that such innovations could only be reconsidered when all schools are fully ready in terms of infrastructure.
“We can always return to various innovations if all educational institutions are 100% ready, at least in terms of infrastructure. Until the issue of infrastructure development is completely resolved, we will not return to this topic. This year, such a change will not happen — that is certain,” he said.
Earlier, the new academic calendar was published, outlining the learning and holiday periods for students. The school year will begin on September 2, 2025, and end on May 25, 2026. The date and time of the ceremonial assembly for the Day of Knowledge will be determined by the decision of the school’s pedagogical council.
