Astana hosted the “Kazakhstan Barysy” national wrestling tournament, where Marat Baikamurov emerged as the champion, Adyrna reports.
This year, 43 wrestlers took part in the competition, which had a total prize fund of 27 million tenge.
In the final match, Marat Baikamurov defeated last year’s champion Yerasyl Kazhybayev, becoming the new titleholder of the tournament. The bronze medal went to Nurdaulet Zharlygapov, the World Nomad Games champion.
Marat Baikamurov represented the “Asker Barysy” (Army Barysy) team, while Yerasyl Kazhybayev competed for the Abai Region, and Nurdaulet Zharlygapov represented the Mangystau Region.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated the winner of the “Kazakhstan Barysy – 2025” tournament, saying:
“I congratulate Marat Baikamurov on his impressive victory at the ‘Kazakhstan Barysy – 2025’ wrestling tournament! He showed remarkable skill and earned the admiration of fans. The state will continue to support the development of Kazakh wrestling,” the President noted.
It is worth mentioning that the “Kazakhstan Barysy” tournament has been held annually since 2011 and is considered one of the most prestigious sporting events in the country.
