Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said after his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump that Russia is pretending to be ready for peace talks because it is deeply afraid of “Tomahawk” missiles, reports the national portal “Adyrna.”
According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations discussed the delivery of air defense systems during the meeting. Both sides agreed to continue working in this direction and are currently coordinating delivery schedules with American manufacturers for Ukraine and other countries.
However, the U.S. side did not make any concrete promise to provide “Tomahawk” missiles to Ukraine.
“The topic of long-range weapons was raised, but we agreed not to discuss it publicly, as the U.S. does not want the conflict to escalate,” Zelensky said.
He also added:
“I believe Russia is very afraid of ‘Tomahawk’ missiles. But it’s not the missiles themselves they fear — it’s the possibility of them being used together with Ukrainian weapons,” he emphasized.
After the meeting, Donald Trump did not speak to reporters and flew to his residence in Florida. Later, he made a social media post in which he did not mention any specific results of the meeting but advised both sides to “declare themselves winners.”
It should be noted that during a recent phone conversation between Trump and Putin, the Russian side expressed concern over the potential U.S. decision to supply “Tomahawk” cruise missiles to Ukraine.
