May 1 is the Day of Unity of the People of Kazakhstan. On this day, the friendship, mutual understanding, and solidarity among representatives of various nationalities and ethnic groups living in Kazakhstan are widely promoted.

This holiday has been officially celebrated since 1996. Its foundation lies in the idea of strengthening stability and harmony in society. Kazakhstan is a common home for people of diverse cultures, languages, and traditions. Therefore, this day has become a symbol of unity and peace in the country.

The Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, established in March 1995, has been recognized as a unique institution ensuring interethnic harmony. This structure is considered a politically significant organization with few equivalents in global practice. Today, the Assembly includes hundreds of members and thousands of ethnocultural associations, all contributing to strengthening social harmony and stability.

In Kazakhstan, all conditions have been created for every ethnic group to preserve and develop its culture, language, and traditions. This is an important factor in maintaining internal political stability and civil harmony in the country. The idea of celebrating the Day of Unity of the People of Kazakhstan in a new format and turning it into one of the country’s main holidays was proposed by former President Nursultan Nazarbayev in 2011.
