Kazakh weightlifter Alikhan Askerbay finished the Asian Youth Games in Manama, Bahrain, with a brilliant victory, reports Adyrna citing the National Olympic Committee.
Competing in the 71 kg weight category, the athlete became a double champion — first in the snatch event, then again in the clean and jerk.
Askerbay lifted 172 kg, setting new world, Asian, and Asian Games records among youth athletes.
The silver medal went to China’s Chen Xinxin (171 kg), while Ha Jun Kim from South Korea took bronze with a result of 167 kg.
It is worth noting that Alikhan Askerbay set a total of six records during the competition.
