Archaeologically significant historical artifacts have been discovered in the Bogen Reservoir of Ordabasy district, Turkistan region, researchers from the Archaeological Center of Zhanibekov University reported, Adyrna national portal informs citing Kazinform.

Due to drought that began earlier this year, the reservoir’s water level receded, exposing historical and cultural monuments. An expedition lasting one week resulted in the discovery of valuable artifacts.

According to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the findings include tools from the Late Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods. Among them are about ten chalcedony stones, cores, and stone blades used for cutting and carving, all clustered in one area. The artifacts were carefully studied as they had been exposed by water erosion.

In addition, excavations revealed several burial sites from the Late Bronze Age. Although human remains were poorly preserved, remarkable items were found: ceramic vessels decorated with geometric patterns, a temple ornament made of bronze with gold plating, a bronze double bracelet, a ring with a rim, earrings, and numerous small beads once used to adorn headwear.

According to Archaeological Center head A. Podushkin and researcher G. Stamkulova, such items from this era had not previously been discovered in the Turkistan region.

The expedition also identified a burial site belonging to the Kangly-Sarmatian period. Alongside the warrior’s remains were three socketed arrowheads with downward-facing wings, a household knife, a jug, and a belt clasp. These artifacts date back to the 1st century BC – 1st century AD, indicating that the region has been continuously inhabited since ancient times.

The excavations were carried out jointly with staff from the National Historical and Cultural Reserve of the region. The artifacts will be studied further and later transferred to a museum.
