How is the digitalization of universities at the time of a pandemic?

On November 20, a live broadcast "Digitalization in Universities" took place on the ADALBILIM platform. The online event, organized by the ADAL BILIM Project Office at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, brought together rectors and vice-rectors of Kazakhstani universities and education experts who discussed the digitalization of higher education.

According to Galymzhan Kudaibergenov, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of KAZGUU, the pandemic found universities in varying degrees of readiness for new conditions, nevertheless, it became a starting point for creating the education of the future and forced universities to reconsider traditional approaches. He also presented the Smart KAZGUU mobile application, which made life easier for students and parents.

“Today, students can manage their balance, create their own schedule, receive certificates, documents and even write an application without leaving home. All this can be done using a mobile application. With the help of the section "Finance" the student can manage his balance. The student or parents can top up and see the current total balance. Also, students can receive extracts by semesters or for a certain period, ”said Galymzhan Kudaibergenov.

Another advantage of the mobile application is that a student forms his own schedule within the framework of credit education. Students choose a teacher, class time and date.

The participants in the discussion came to the conclusion that each university needs to develop its own, author's model of distance learning, which will harmoniously combine classical approaches in education and digitalization.
