President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent a congratulatory telegram to Pope Leo XIV, reports Adyrna.
On behalf of the people of Kazakhstan, President Tokayev congratulated Pope Leo XIV on his election.
“I am confident that, through your election as the Holy See, the Catholic Church will continue to play an important role in promoting peace and stability during these challenging times in the international arena,” the message read.
The President also noted that the Pope had visited Kazakhstan twice, a country home to followers of various faiths, and emphasized that Kazakhstan consistently supports joint efforts aimed at strengthening interfaith harmony, trust, and friendship among nations.
As a reminder, the conclave to elect a new Pope began at the Vatican on May 7. During the first and second rounds, the conclave failed to elect a new Pope, resulting in black smoke emerging from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. The new Pope was elected the following day.
