Vietnamese company SOVICO Group is considering taking over the management of one of the airports in Kazakhstan. This was announced on May 6 by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin in Astana, ahead of a meeting between Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, according to Adyrna national portal.
“Vietnam is one of our largest partners in Southeast Asia. In 2023, trade turnover reached approximately $1 billion. Later, due to objective reasons, it slightly declined. We ended the year at $879 million. We mainly export semi-finished products — large amounts of zinc and lead — to Vietnam. In return, we import household appliances and processed goods from them. It’s worth noting that this sector is well developed in Vietnam,” he said.
He also noted that he had visited Vietnam’s industrial zones and assessed their level of development.
“Japanese and South Korean companies operate there, having established their own production facilities with excellent conditions. We have much to learn from them. But overall, our cooperation has been developing very well for a long time. As you know, during the President of Kazakhstan’s visit to Vietnam, the Vietnamese SOVICO Group company acquired Qazaq Air. It will continue to develop here. Recently, they visited again, and I met with them. In addition, they are considering purchasing an airport, as the airline needs a base airport. This is a very large and rapidly developing company that is signing many contracts with international firms. Significant work is planned in this regard,” Zhumangarin explained.
