Renowned writer Ernest Torekhanov has passed away

Today, renowned writer Ernest Torekhanov has passed away, reports the national portal “Adyrna”.

Writer Ernest Torekhanov was born on November 12, 1943, in Almaty region.
He graduated from the Faculty of Russian Philology at the Kazakh State University.

He worked as a proofreader, literary contributor, deputy executive editor, and department head at the “Leninshil Zhas” (“Zhas Alash”) newspaper. He spent many years working at the “Zhazushy” and “Zhalyn” publishing houses, as well as at the “Kazakhfilm” film studio.

He also served as the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Nauka i Vysshaya Shkola Kazakhstana” (“Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan”).

Since 1990, he had been the vice president of the International “Kazakh Language” Society, and concurrently held the position of editor-in-chief of the society’s newspaper “Aq Zharyq” – “Bely Svet” (“White Light”).

His first book, Khan Tengri, was published in 1978.
Since then, he released works such as The Golden Circle (novellas and stories), The Trail from the Mountain (novella), The Man’s Turn (novel and novella), The Distant White City, Clear Skies in Almaty, and Iskander and Roxana (novels).
