Negotiations for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the Almaty region are set to take place in the near future. This was announced by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
The analysis for determining the locations of the second and third nuclear power plants has been completed, he stated.
Bektenov also noted that Kazakhstan economy grew by 4.8% in 2024, which is slightly below the government target of 6%.
In agriculture, growth reached 13.7%, in construction 13.1%, in trade 9.1%, and in transportation up to 8.5%. The volume of the manufacturing industry increased by 5.9%. The agrarian sector and manufacturing industry recorded the most significant growth in the past ten years, Bektenov added.
However, oil production decreased by 2.4 million tons, negatively impacting GDP growth rates. The decline was attributed to obligations under the OPEC+ framework and the closure of major oil fields for maintenance last year.
