Colombian President Gustavo Petro offered the presidential plane to return deported Colombians from the United States to their home country. This was announced on January 26 by representatives of the president office, according to Adyrna.
Previously, Petro had refused to accept U.S. military planes full of migrants.
If the U.S. wants to return migrants, it must do so with respect for our country. We are ready to receive our citizens, but they must arrive on civil aviation planes, the president stated on the social media platform.
After Colombia refused to accept migrants, the United States imposed several sanctions on the country. Notably, President Donald Trump ordered a 25% tariff on all Colombian goods, a travel ban for the country officials, allies, and supporters, and the immediate revocation of visas.
It is worth noting that on January 25, the United States announced the start of a campaign to deport illegal migrants, with the first 79 migrants being returned to Guatemala.
