On January 17, Mongolia’s first president, Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat, passed away at the age of 82. The news was reported by local media, according to “Adyrna” correspondent.
He was born on January 23, 1942, in the Zavkhan province. A graduate of the Leningrad Mining Institute, he held a PhD in technical sciences. During his political career, he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Economy, and Chairman of the Great People’s Khural. In 1990, he was elected as the first president of Mongolia and led the country until 1997.
After his presidential term ended, he left politics and established the “Ochirbat” foundation, a non-profit organization focused on fighting poverty. He also served as a member of the Constitutional Court of Mongolia.
It is worth noting that on September 14, 2023, Moldova’s first president, Mircea Snegur, also passed away.
