Stanislav Cherchesov will continue coaching the Kazakhstan national team until the end of the 2026 World Cup qualifying stage. This was announced by Marat Omarov, the newly elected president of the Kazakhstan Football Federation (KFF), as reported by the national portal “Adyrna.”

“Cherchesov is continuing his work with the Kazakhstan team. He had a meeting with the federation president to discuss the preparation plan for the World Cup qualifiers. With little time left until March, no changes are expected, and everything is proceeding as planned. Does the federation have confidence in the coach? Absolutely, he is continuing his work with the team,” said KFF Managing Director Kaisar Bekenov to “Match TV.”

Previously, it was mentioned that Cherchesov had met with the new KFF president, Marat Omarov. In December, commentator Ermekhmed Maulen wrote on his Telegram channel that the new KFF president, Marat Omarov, would dismiss Cherchesov. However, the federation’s press service later denied this information.

The Russian specialist took over as head coach of the Kazakhstan national team in June 2024, replacing Magomed Adiev. The Kazakhstan team failed to qualify for the 2024 European Championship and is currently ranked 110th in the FIFA rankings, between Mauritania and Namibia.

In November, the Kazakhstan team lost 0-5 to Norway in their final group stage match of the UEFA Nations League. The national team gathered 1 point and will play in League C next season. Kazakhstan’s first matches in the World Cup qualifying stage will be in March against Wales and Liechtenstein.
