At least 95 people have died in floods in Spain, reports the “Adyrna” national portal. In addition to the destruction of cities, villages, trees, and vehicles, dozens of people are still missing.

According to The Guardian, authorities in Valencia are urging residents to avoid flooded or closed roads and are emphasizing the need to ensure access for emergency services.

Spain’s Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that more than 1,000 soldiers have been deployed to areas affected by the disaster. The central government also sent nine forensic experts to Valencia to help identify the deceased.

The flood, which occurred on Tuesday, has become Spain’s most devastating natural disaster since 1996, when a flood killed 87 people. Major floods also impacted Europe in July 2021, killing 243 people across Germany, Belgium, Romania, Italy, and Austria.
