President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received a proposal for Kazakhstan to join BRICS. This was reported by the President’s press secretary, Berik Uali, to Tengrinews.kz, according to the “Adyrna” national portal.

“The BRICS summit will take place on October 23-24. As far as we know, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has been invited to this forum as a guest of Vladimir Putin, who is currently leading this group. The president plans to participate in the BRICS summit and deliver a speech at the expanded outreach session of the organization on October 24,” said Berik Uali.

Azerbaijan, Belarus, and other CIS countries may also submit applications to join BRICS.

According to Berik Uali, Kazakhstan is closely monitoring the development of BRICS and supports the founding nations’ call for the creation of a fair and democratic world order, free from the hegemony of any major powers.

However, for now and in the near future, Kazakhstan will not apply for BRICS membership. This decision was made considering the organization’s development prospects and its multi-step process.

The press secretary emphasized that Kazakhstan’s primary focus in its foreign policy remains on the United Nations. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has repeatedly highlighted the UN’s role in establishing a fair world order. Despite some shortcomings, there is no alternative structure to the UN, and it needs international support.
