The referendum on the construction of the nuclear power plant will be held on October 6. Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said this in his address to the people of Kazakhstan, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.
"The nationwide referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant will be held on October 6 this year. I will sign the relevant Decree today. The upcoming referendum will be another clear manifestation of a large-scale national dialogue. In fact, this is a characteristic of a "state that listens to the voice of the people", Tokayev said in his message.
According to the President, the energy shortage in the world is increasing now. Our country needs reliable and environmentally friendly energy sources.
"That's why I think we should emphasize the development of nuclear energy. Because our economy needs a lot of energy every day. Such a demand can be provided by nuclear energy. About 200 nuclear power plants are operating in 30 developed and developing countries," the president said.
