Acting Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Sergei Surovikin, has been dismissed. General Viktor Afzalov was appointed to this post. This was announced by RIA Novosti, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.
Afzalov had previously been the chief of the General Staff of the Aerospace Forces under Surovikin.
It should be noted that on August 22, journalist Alexey Venediktov wrote that Surovikin was removed from office based on the secret decree of the president. It says that even though Surovikin was dismissed, he remained in the Ministry of Defense.
RBC says that Surovikin has transferred to another position. According to information, Surovikin is currently on short-term leave.
Journalist Ksenia Sobchak reports that Surovikin was dismissed from office on August 18 by a secret decree of Putin.
