The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced that Kazakhstani banks were allowed to use payment cards of the "MIR" system, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.

"On December 8, 2022, regulators received a letter from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), a division of the US Treasury Department, in which the US agency did not object to the use of bank cards of the "MIR" system for making transactions that ensure the daily life of individuals, in particular, citizens who moved from Russia to Kazakhstan. " said the message published on the official website of the financial regulator.

In this letter, it is noted that the transactions made with the "Mir" payment system will be under special control so that they are not used to circumvent sanctions against Russia.

"Thus, Kazakhstani banks have the right to accept payments and transfers on MIR cards, as well as carry out cash transfers through ATMs for individuals. At the same time, the decision to join the MIR system is made by Kazakhstani banks based on their development strategies and internal risk assessment systems  accepted independently", the message says.
