In his speech at the General Debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, the Head of State Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev spoke about creating a world free of nuclear weapons, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.
He said that the country suffered a lot from nuclear weapons tests, and emphasized that he fully understands the danger of increasing confrontation between the nuclear powers.
"Thus, nuclear disarmament has become an important aspect of Kazakhstan's foreign policy. We will continue our struggle for a world free of nuclear weapons. Despite some progress in this area, unfortunately, the overall situation is not good. We are concerned about the growing competition and confrontation between the nuclear powers. We are also concerned about the lack of progress within the General Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. "We have a very difficult task to develop new mechanisms in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons," said the Head of State.
