Following a special operation in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russia’s acting chargé d’affaires in Baku, Pyotr Volokov. This was announced in an official statement by the ministry, according to the “Adyrna” national portal.

According to the statement, on June 27, Russian law enforcement conducted raids on several apartments in Yekaterinburg where Azerbaijani nationals lived. As a result, two citizens—Ziyaddin and Guseyn Safarov—were killed, several others were seriously injured, and nine people were detained.

The Azerbaijani side described the actions as “brutal use of force” and issued a strong protest to the Russian authorities.

Russian investigative authorities stated the operation was conducted as part of a criminal case related to the 2001 murder of Azerbaijani citizen Yunis Pashayev. The searches were reportedly connected to the Safarov family from Aghdam.

Additionally, a search was carried out at the “Baku Plaza” shopping center. Some sources claimed that Shahin Shikhlinski, head of the local Azerbaijani diaspora, had been questioned. However, he denied these reports.
