A total of 156 unnamed streets in Almaty are expected to receive official names. The proposal was prepared by the city administration and submitted to the city council for consideration, according to “Adyrna” national portal citing Krisha.kz.
The list of proposed names includes prominent figures who have made significant contributions to culture, art, and history. For instance, one of the streets in the Bostandyk district may be named after Kazakh figure skater Denis Ten, who tragically passed away in 2018.
Other names being considered include:
- Ho Chi Minh – Vietnamese revolutionary and political leader,
- Natalya Sats – founder of the world’s first musical theater for children,
- Abduali Kaidarov – renowned Turkologist and scholar known for his research on the Kazakh language.
Additionally, new street names such as Munara (Tower), Sarkyrama (Waterfall), Kulin (Foal), Abiz, Sunkar (Falcon), and Kudiret (Power) may appear in the city.
The final decision on the street names will be made after public discussions and a session vote by the city council deputies.
