Chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency Almasadam Satkaliyev has announced the estimated cost of the first nuclear power plant to be built in the country. He shared this information during a joint session of the Parliament chambers, according to “Adyrna.”
“The cost will be determined based on the technical and economic feasibility study. We currently have indicative figures provided by the vendors. However, we cannot disclose these offers yet, as they are protected by official agreements.
In general, based on international experience, the cost of a plant of this scale is approximately 14 billion dollars,” said Almasadam Satkaliyev.
He also commented on claims that the second nuclear power plant would be built by China.
“Each nuclear project is unique. All parties involved have the necessary expertise and solid experience. The reason we chose Rosatom for the first project is due to the construction timeline they proposed.
We will be able to speak about the construction of a second plant only after negotiations with the Chinese side,” the agency chairman stated.
In addition, he noted that it typically takes about 7 years to build a nuclear power plant.
