Former U.S. President Joe Biden spoke publicly for the first time since leaving the White House, according to the national portal “Adyrna.”
Joe Biden gave a speech yesterday at a conference held in Chicago, where he was presented with the “Beacon of Hope” award. The event was broadcast live by American TV channels.
Biden openly criticized President Donald Trump’s second term and called his actions regarding the Social Security Agency “destructive.”
“Look at what happened. In just 100 days, the new administration managed to cause so much harm and break so many things. The fact that such events have occurred in such a short time is truly shocking,” Biden said.
He did not mention Trump by name, instead referring to him as “that guy.”
The former president also criticized the mass layoffs of government employees and the racial injustice in the country.
“During this period, 7,000 employees were dismissed, including some of the most experienced civil servants. Now they’re preparing to fire thousands more,” Biden said.
He also indirectly criticized Elon Musk, who supports cuts to federal employees and government spending, by comparing the new administration’s culture to tech startups.
“They’re following an old tech startup slogan – ‘Move fast and break things.’ And they are really breaking everything. They shoot first, aim later. This results in unnecessary burdens and sleepless nights,” Biden said.
The politician stated that the country has never been so divided in modern American history, and he described 30% of the population as “heartless.”
Biden accused the Republican Party of intentionally trying to dismantle the Social Security Agency. According to him, their aim is to use the Social Security funds to extend the tax breaks introduced during Trump’s first term.
“Why is this happening? Why are they targeting Social Security? Because they want to destroy it. Why? To rob it. And why do they want to rob it? To give tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations. They want to make the 2017 tax breaks permanent, and these primarily benefit the wealthiest Americans and big companies. This will cost $5 trillion. Where will they get that money from? They’ll keep increasing the budget deficit. That’s what they always do. And then they take the money from somewhere else,” Biden said.
